Threat
Section 503 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) defines threat as:
“An act of threatening a person to injure their body, property, or reputation, or another person’s body, property, or reputation, intending to cause that person to perform any act or omission which they are not legally entitled to do, as the means of avoiding the execution of such threat.”
This definition emphasizes the use of intimidation or coercion to force someone to act in a manner that is not lawful.
Injury
Section 44 of IPC defines injury as:
“Any illegal harm caused to a person’s body, mind, reputation, or property.”
This section implies that any harm, whether physical, emotional, reputational, or property-related, is considered an injury under the law. The person responsible for causing the injury is liable to compensate the injured party for the damages sustained.
